Who we are

PlanetBaby.ca is operated by Lifestyle Basics Enterprise Inc., trading as Planet Baby ("Planet Baby", "we", "us"), 2026 Tenth Line Road, Ottawa, Ontario K4A 4X4, Canada. This policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect personal information when you visit planetbaby.ca, buy from us, or contact us. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Our privacy officer

Our Privacy Officer is responsible for how we handle your personal information. Contact: Privacy Officer, Lifestyle Basics Enterprise Inc., info@planetbaby.ca (subject line "Privacy").

What we collect

• Order details: name, billing and shipping address, email, phone number, what you bought, and order history. Card payments are handled by our payment processors; we do not see or store your full card number.
• Account details: if you create an account, your login email and saved addresses.
• Messages: what you send us by email, chat or contact form.
• Email sign-up: your email address and your consent record (when and how you agreed).
• Device and browsing data: IP address, browser type, pages viewed, how you reached our site, and cookie data.

Why we collect it

We use your information only to:

1. Process, ship and support your orders, returns and refunds.
2. Answer your questions.
3. Prevent fraud and keep our store secure.
4. Send marketing emails, only if you have agreed (see "Email marketing" below).
5. Understand how our site is used so we can improve it.
6. Meet legal duties, such as tax record keeping.

We will not use your information for any other purpose without asking you first, unless the law allows or requires it.

Your consent

When you place an order, you consent to us using your information to complete it. For marketing emails, we ask for your consent separately. You can control cookies used for analytics or advertising through your browser settings and any cookie choices shown on our site. You can withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal or contract limits. If you do, we will tell you what that means for your order or account.

Email marketing

We send marketing emails only to people who have agreed to receive them or where Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) allows it. Every email includes our contact details and an unsubscribe link. We act on unsubscribe requests within 10 business days.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the store, and only what they need:

• Shopify (store platform, checkout, payment processing and customer chat)
• PayPal (payments)
• Email marketing services such as Shopify Email and Mailchimp (marketing emails, only with your consent)
• Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager (site statistics)
• Canada Post and other carriers (delivery)
• Meta (Facebook) pixel (advertising measurement)

These providers must protect your information and may use it only to provide their service to us. We may also disclose information when the law requires it, for example in response to a valid court order.

Processing outside Canada

Some of our service providers store or process information outside Canada, mainly in the United States and possibly in other countries. While it is there, it may be accessed by courts, law enforcement and national security authorities of those countries under their laws. Contact our privacy officer if you have questions about this.

How long we keep it

• Order and payment records: 6 years after the end of the tax year they relate to, as Canadian tax law requires.
• Customer service messages: only as long as we need them to resolve your request and keep a reasonable record of it.
• Email marketing list: until you unsubscribe. Then we keep only a record that you unsubscribed and when you consented, so we respect your choice.
• Abandoned checkout and analytics data: according to the retention settings of Shopify and Google Analytics.

After these periods we delete the information or make it anonymous.

How we protect it

We protect your information with safeguards suited to how sensitive it is. These include encrypted connections (HTTPS) on our site, payment processors that meet card-industry security standards, and access limited to people who need it to do their work.

If there is a breach

If a breach of our safeguards creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will tell you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada as soon as possible, as PIPEDA requires. We keep a record of every breach.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

• Tell you what personal information we hold about you, how we use it and who we have shared it with.
• Correct information that is wrong or incomplete.
• Withdraw consent or delete information we no longer need to keep.

Email info@planetbaby.ca with the subject line "Privacy request". We may need to confirm your identity. We will reply within 30 days and will not charge you, or will tell you first if a cost or an extension applies. If we refuse a request, we will tell you why.

Children

Our store is for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Complaints

Contact our privacy officer first. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (priv.gc.ca).

Changes

We will post any update here with a new date. If a change affects how we use information we already hold, we will ask for your consent where the law requires it.
