Here are a list of great questions to ask kids when preparing for Earth Day. Asking questions without giving the answer right away is a great way to find out what kids already know, and their thoughts and feelings.

• What can you recycle?
• What can you do around the house to conserve energy?
• What do plants do for us and the Earth?
• Why shouldn’t we litter and what is littering?
• Why don’t we dump trash in the ocean?
• What can we make from old or recyclable items?

PLANT A TREE 

Trees provide us with many benefits so no wonder it's such a popular activity for Earth Day. Trees help us reduce energy consumption by breaking winter winds and providing shade in the summer, they provide shelter for birds and other animals, and they improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gasses by absorbing carbon dioxide.

GO ON A NATURE WALK

Take the kids and get outdoors in nature this Earth day! Go for a walk around your local park.

PLANT A SEED

Get an egg carton and make starter plants indoors. Fill the carton with dirt, and whatever plant seed you want to see grow. Let the kids be in charge of choosing the seeds and watering them. It's such a fun way to learn about different types of plants. Who knows, maybe you've even got a little gardener on your hands!

BUILD A BIRD FEEDER

Buy a kit or make a bird feeder from scratch. You and your kids are bound to have blast building together and watching all the different types of birds that visit your yard!

HAVE A SCAVENGER HUNT

Creating a list where the kids can get outside and search for things in nature is a great way to celebrate Earth Day and learn more about the outdoors! Bonus? It's an awesome way to work in the topic of taking care of the planet while having some fun. 

MAKE CRAFTS WITH RECYCLED MATERIALS
